Weekly Photo Challenge: Against the Odds

This beautiful old Sweet Chestnut tree lives in Bush Wood in Leytonstone, East London – she’s at least a good couple of hundred years old, part of the remnants of Wanstead Park Estate, in what is now the lower reaches of the ancient Epping Forest.

I know there are hundreds of old trees still growing in the UK, but this one has survived here against the odds – even though the vast urban sprawl that is modern-day London has now swallowed up not only the surrounding area but also far beyond, she still stands strong, stately and majestic, surveying her ancient kingdom, where hopefully she will remain for many years to come… ❤
