    Great photos. Interesting to ponder why they put spikes only in those specific areas. Perhaps the workmen were pigeon fanciers!

      Oh, I hadn’t actually noticed that, Peter – I was focusing on holding the camera still in the comparative gloom under the bridge! 🙂

    I can’t get over how bright and shiny these are! NYC subway under structures are gritty and grimy and gross. I did recognize the prickles in the middle photo as pigeon deflectors. But ours were always covered in pigeon poop. Blech.

      This particular bridge sits over a canal rather than a railway track, and sits quite low overhead (I was standing on the towpath, and using a standard lens to take the shots) so its surface probably gets cleaned/maintained quite regularly 🙂
