Daily Prompt: Measure

A standard single measure of spirits here in the UK is 25ml, and it takes practice to consistently and accurately free-pour shots when working behind the bar, as over-pouring messes up stock levels and under-pouring contravenes trading standards.

The way we were trained was using a single 25mm measure, a tap-water-filled spirit bottle with pourer attached, and an empty wine glass with a 250ml (large) measure clearly marked on the side. The idea is to be able to free-pour 10 single measures from the bottle into the wine glass one after the other, hitting the 250ml line bang on every time without being too slow – after all customers don’t like waiting, and there’s always someone else waiting to be served!

It sounds easy, but it does take practice to get the level just right every time πŸ™‚

I always think a wine glass looks so empty when I buy one – it’s certainly not as full as when I pour one at home! 😝🐻

I was once a bar maid years ago for about two weeks, I couldn’t stand the smell of smoke in my hair 😬
