Old Gravestones

1761

I love the feel of really old gravestones, especially once the carved lettering becomes all worn and weathered and filled with green moss.

This poor soul departed this life 31 October 1761 in the 32nd year of his age, and has a beautifully peaceful resting place ❤

This was taken at Breaklich Cemetery, Gollanfield, Inverness on my last trip home to Scotland – when we were kids these old flat slab stones were raised up on support stones, like low coffee tables, but presumably for health and safety and practical reasons they are now laid flat into the grass 🙂

Wonderful! One of my favorite memories from art class in school was our trips to old New England graveyards to make gravestone rubbings wth rice paper and charcoal.
